20th Century Bohemians and Angels is a cycle of 12 novels by Lee Vidor.

The cycle is an extended work of fiction which explores the Modernist Renaissance which took place throughout the 20th Century, and which made our contemporary world.

20th Century Bohemians and Angels is the first literary work to undertake such an endeavor, and the first work of any type which defines the 20th Century as a Renaissance.

The fictional themes of the cycle are love, sex, death, art.

Each book is a work of fiction, each book is entirely independent but thematically related.

All the books have completely different characters in them, you can begin reading the cycle with any book. It's not an ongoing story. All the books are independent, each is a complete story in itself.

There will be 12 novels in the completed cycle.

You can read excerpts from the first 4 novels published here. Novel Excerpts

The novel cycle attempts to create an integrated picture of the real lives of the revolutionary modernists and the bohemian milieus in which they lived and created all through the 20th Century.

It also traces the socio-political developments of the evolving century, particularly as related to sexuality, self expression and women's liberation. Historically the 20th Century will come to be seen as The Century of Women.

The cycle dramatizes the 20th Century as a Renaissance which has been historically far more important to the development of mankind than the Renaissance of c.15th Century.

Here's what I said about the novel cycle somewhere else on this web site:

The books of 20th Century Bohemians and Angels are an examination of how our contemporary world was formed.

What was once bohemian and avant-garde is now mainstream culture. I am writing about how that happened.

I am the originator of the wonderful exciting new theory that the 20th Century has been a Modernist Renaissance. The most important renaissance in human history.

Much more important than that little disturbance over perspective etc in the 16th Century.

I am writing 20th Century Bohemians and Angels, which is an expansive cycle of novels, centered on the real story of Modernism and the great bohemias.

It was the artists who made the world modern, and some of them died for it, of poverty, drugs and much too much love.

The novels are about the magnificent wild daring flamboyant people they were, and the fantastic things they brought into the world. The books and paintings and poetry and music and theater and most of all, the general madness and inspiration. About how they made the world modern. And why they did it.

It’s not a story you’ve heard before. This time it's written by an artist and bohemian, and not an academic making a study of artists as curious wild alien creatures. If you want to know what it's like to be a lion, then ask a lion, and not a zoologist. Lions eat zoologists.

ALSO:

The 20th Century Bohemians and Angels novel cycle is an extended work of fiction which explores the Modernist Renaissance of the 20th Century, and the artists who created it. All of the books are completely independent narratives. They can be read in any order.

Lee Vidor is the first to define and explore the 20th Century as a Modernist Renaissance.

All the books have lots of characters and story and are full of friendly little words which are suitable for reading anywhere by any adult. Including non-native English speakers.

They are also full of the themes which make up all our lives.

All of them have a good deal of eroticism and laughter in them. Lots of other dangerous things too. If you don't learn something from them, then you're probably the best educated and most experienced person on earth. Also I don't believe you. The books are all historically accurate. This is how it really was for the people in these times and places.

If you are easily shocked you should definitely read them.

Also if you are an artist or a scholar or a lover of the arts you shouldn't miss the 20th Century Bohemians and Angels cycle. I suspect it may even be ultimately impossible to understand the 20th Century without it. Perhaps even the 21st Century too.

What was once bohemian is now mainstream. What was once modern is now postmodern. The novel cycle 20th Century Bohemians and Angels explores where we came from and how we got here.

You'll also enjoy them if you're a person who likes to laugh and have sex and be in love.

If you aren't such a person, I'm not sure I want you reading my books anyway.

The Novels of the Cycle

Each book is an independent story dealing with a particular bohemian milieu. Artists both historically real and fictional are depicted together in their struggle to survive and create, to love and to live, to revolutionize the world and survive their obsessive passions. The books are historically accurate and depict the daily reality of bohemian lives.

Ultimately there will be 12 novels in the cycle.

The first 6 will be published in 2011-12. A following 3 novels will be published in 2013.
